 Ask a Question

A very desirable Silver proof £2 issued by the Royal Mint in 2001. The Bi-coloured Silver Proof coin has a 22ct ‘yellow’ Gold plated outer disc contrasting the Silver inner disc.

The reverse pattern represents decorative radio waves emanating from a spark of electricity, linking the zeros of the date to represent the generation of the morse code SOS signal that first crossed the Atlantic in 1901. The edge inscription reads: ‘WIRELESS BRIDGES THE ATLANTIC ….MARCONI 1901.

Being a PIEDFORT coin it is much thicker and heavier than the standard Silver proof coin.

Only 10,000 were issued for worldwide distribution.

Encapsulated and housed in the original Royal Mint box with the Certificate of Authenticity it is a must for any commemorative issue collectors.
