When Her Majesty The Queen was crowned in 1953, the entrance to Westminster Abbey was guarded by ten fantastical creatures - The Queen's Beasts.

To celebrate the ancestral beasts of heraldry, myth and legend that have watched over Her Majesty the Queen throughout her unprecedented reign, a brand new UK £5 coin has been released featuring the Unicorn of Scotland.

The Unicorn of Scotland is an enduring symbol of strength and beauty. It first appeared on Scottish heraldry in the twelfth century, after William I created an early form of the Scottish Coat of Arms and is a traditional symbol of British Royal Heraldry.

The patriotic design by Jody Clark features a dynamic depiction of the Unicorn of Scotland leaping over the shield of Scotland. It's one of the best designs in years - harking back to a more traditional style. The obverse features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty the Queen and has also been designed by Jody Clark.

Struck by the Royal Mint to an unblemished Brilliant Uncirculated finish, this £5 coin has been protectively encapsulated and features a security hologram to certify its superior quality.
