America the Beautiful Quarters® Program
In 2010, the United States Mint began issuing 56 quarter-dollar coins featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites as part of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.
Common Obverse
Each coin in the series features a common obverse (heads side) with the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original model. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”
Release Schedule
Each year, the public will see five new national site designs depicted on the reverse (tails side) of America the Beautiful Quarters. The United States Mint will issue these quarters in the order in which the honored site was first established as a national site.
Site Selection
Former Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner selected the list of sites to be honoured after consulting with the governor or other chief executive of each host jurisdiction and former Secretary of the Interior Kenneth Salazar, in accordance with authorizing legislation and the site selection process.
