2017 Niue Silver Owl of Athena 1 Troy Ounce $2 Denomination .999 Fine Silver Coin

Custom minted by the SilverTowne Mint located in Winchester, Indiana, these coins are the SilverTowne mint's first official coin minted with a Face Value of $2 for the South Pacific nation of Niue

In this design you will find the "Owl of Athena" on a hammered finish background making these a BU quality coin. The Athenian Owl originates in ancient Greek mythology, the goddess Athena kept an owl (her patron animal) on her shoulder that revealed truths to her and represented wisdom and knowledge. The symbol of Athena's owl was eventually used on currency, the Athenian tetradrachms.

On the obverse the Owl is standing right, head facing with an olive spring & berry behind on the left along with crescent for the moon in upper left field and "ΑΘΕ" to the right. Finishing out the design is the weight and purity designation curved around the bottom "1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER". The reverse then features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadly on a hammered background along with the inscriptions of " ELIZABETH II", the country of issue "NIUE", the year date "2017", denomination "TWO DOLLARS".
