1993 £5 BU Coin Pack – HM QEII 40th Anniversary Coronation

On offer is the totally uncirculated year 1993 £5 coin presented in this special edition pack.

The Coronation was an event shared by millions, whether as part of the privileged congregation in Westminster Abbey, as part of the crowd lining the streets of London, or as part of the huge audience who watched on television.  The highlight of the day for all who watched or waited was the moment when the newly crowned Queen, seated in the magnificient Gold State Coach, made her way back to Buckingham Palace and the start of a new era for Britain.

Both the obverse and reverse designs of this maganificnet crown, which capture the joy of the Coronation forty years ago, are by Robert Elderton.  His beautiful designs were selected from competition entries submitted to the Royal Mint Advisory Committee and subsequently approved by Her Majesty the Queen.

On the obverse the Queen is shown uncrowned, as she appeared in the very charming portrait by Mary Gillick on the coinage of the Coronation year.  The effigy is encircled by mounted trumpeters separated by swords and sceptres of the Royal Regalia.

St Edward's crown, the crown actually used at the coronation of the Queen, is featured on the reverse.  It is surrounded by forty trumpets in celebration of the happy occasion, evoking memories of the blaze of trumpets which welcomed the Queen as she entered Westminster Abbey on Coronation day.

The reverse also bears part of the Oath of Homage FAITH AND TRUTH I WILL BEAR UNTO YOU, which appeared as the edge inscription on the crown issued in 1953.
