The majority of koalas can be found in eastern Australia, where the eucalyptus trees they habitat and feed off are most plentiful.  Each animal eats approximately one kilogram of leaves a day, which is a tremendous amount for its size.  Although koalas do drink water when they are unwell or in a life threating situation, they usually obtain most of the moisture they need from eucalyptus leaves.

The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% silver.  Issued as Australian legal tender, the obverse of the coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and the monetary denomination.

The coin's reverse depicts a struck image of an adult koala sitting on a coloured branch of a eucalyptus tree surrounded by gum leaves.  The design includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOALA, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the 2013 year-date.

This coin is presented in a beautifully illustrated card, showing the coin’s reverse and obverse, and technical specifications.
