The 4th Olympiad London Anniversary £2 Silver Proof Coin

The centenary of the first Olympic Games to be held in London falls in 2008 and the Royal Mint is delighted to be striking a commemorative £2 coin in celebration of the sporting achievements of the athletes who competed at that 4th Olympiad.

Commemorates the centenary of the first Olympic Games to be held in London with Issue limits of just 20,000 of the silver coins.

The design on the reverse of the £2 coin is by Royal Mint engraver, Thomas T Docherty. The central feature of his design includes a running track, an image that is readily associated with the Olympic Games. The anniversary date of 1908 is positioned within the track, with the words LONDON OLYMPIC CENTENARY encircling the design along the outer ring. The edge inscription, THE 4TH OLYMPIAD LONDON, completes the reverse design of the .925 sterling silver £2 coins. The portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS appears on the obverse.
