2010 1/2oz Silver Proof SEA LIFE I - MORAY EEL

The 2010 Proof Silver Moray Eel coin, which is fifth and final release in a five-coin series, features a colorized Moray Eel. The Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination are shown on the obverse.

Contrary to the impression given by its snake-like body, long sharp teeth and open-mouth, the Moray Eel is not an aggressive fish. Although capable of delivering a nasty bite, its mouth is generally open so that water can pass over its gills.

The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1/2oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

The coin’s reverse depicts a starfish in colour and includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. Incorporated into the design are the inscriptions AUSTRALIAN SEA LIFE – THE REEF and MORAY EEL.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2010 year-date on its obverse.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 10,000 of these coins.

Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

Each coin is housed in a display case with a stunningly illustrated coral reef shipper. When lined up with other shippers in the series, it creates an extended underwater reef scene.
